SLARP and Dota 2

Dota 2, or simply Dota, is in the SLARP catalog as a Steam game: the app recognizes it by the dota2.exe process. The search region stays up to you: you pick it in the game itself, and SLARP carries the match traffic to the server the game chose.

What SLARP does

  • Routes Dota 2 through its own network and optimizes ping and jitter

  • Picks the route to the server: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city

  • If the connection drops, it finds a fallback route

  • Everything else on your PC runs as usual

What SLARP does not do

  • Does not change the region or the server in the game — you pick those in the game itself

  • Does not raise FPS and does not fix stutter caused by load on your PC

  • Will not help when the game's own servers are down

  • Works only on Windows 10 and 11: SLARP does not run on a phone or a console

Dota 2 servers

The configuration of Valve's relay network (Steam Datagram Relay) is open for Dota 2 as well. As of 6 October 2026 it lists no relay sites in Russia, and the sites closest to the European part of Russia are:2

  • Stockholm (two sites)
  • Warsaw
  • Vienna
  • Frankfurt
  • Amsterdam

These are Valve relays, not data centers with Dota 2 servers. Where the servers of the “Russia” search region physically stand is not stated in this configuration, so we do not name a city.

How to see your ping in Dota 2

According to the Dota 2 wiki, one interface setting shows ping, packet loss and FPS during a match.3

  1. Open the settings: the gear in the top left corner of the main menu.
  2. The options tab, advanced view, the Miscellaneous section: Options → Advanced → Miscellaneous
  3. Turn on Display Network Information: FPS, ping and packet loss appear in the top right corner of the screen during a match.

The wiki describes the menu as of 2022.

Menu items are named as in the source, in English: localized versions of the game translate them.

If Dota 2 stutters

Packet loss in a match

A lost packet is data that never reached the server or came back. Because of loss, your hero responds to commands in jerks even at a low ping. Turn on the network information display and watch the loss counter: if it rises on Wi-Fi and stays quiet on a cable, the cause is at home. SLARP carries the match through its own network, optimizes ping and jitter and looks for a fallback route if the connection drops.3

Ping is high even though the internet is fast

Plan speed and ping are different things. Ping depends on the distance to the server and on the path your ISP takes to it. In Dota 2 the server is set by the search region, and SLARP picks the route to it through its own network: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city.

The picture freezes while the network is steady

If ping and loss in the network information line do not change but the picture still freezes, look at the FPS next to them. FPS dips are load on your PC; the network has nothing to do with it, and SLARP does not raise FPS.3

Anti-cheat and SLARP

Dota 2's anti-cheat is VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat), as stated on the game's Steam page.1

Game mode does not inject into the game and does not install an intercept driver on its traffic. We cannot vouch for publishers and their anti-cheat: they decide for themselves what counts as a violation.

If the game complains, take it off acceleration (“Don't accelerate (direct)” in the game's menu) and press “Report a problem”.

How to start

  1. Download and install

    Windows 10 and 11

  2. Open SLARP and sign in

No account yet — press “Start: 72 hours free”. Email or Telegram, no card needed

  3. Pick Dota 2 and connect

SLARP finds the installed game on its own

Questions about Dota 2

What is packet loss in Dota 2?

It is game data that never reached the server or came back. Because of loss, your hero twitches and does not obey commands right away, even when ping is low. The loss counter is shown by the Display Network Information setting.

Why is my ping high when the internet is good?

Plan speed is not ping: ping depends on the distance to the server, your ISP's route and Wi-Fi at home. SLARP picks the route to the server through its own network and watches ping, jitter and loss; it does not change the distance to the server or your Wi-Fi.

Does SLARP change the search region?

No. You pick the region in Dota 2 itself before searching for a match, and SLARP carries the game's traffic to the server the game chose.

Does Dota 2 have servers in Russia?

In the open configuration of Valve's network for Dota 2 as of 6 October 2026 there are no relay sites in Russia; the nearest to its European part are Stockholm, Warsaw, Vienna and Frankfurt. Where the servers of the “Russia” search region stand is not said in this configuration.

Will there be automatic charges?

No. Access does not renew on its own — you renew it manually.
