SLARP and Rust

Rust is in the SLARP catalog: the app recognizes the Steam game by the RustClient.exe process. You pick a server in the game's browser, and SLARP carries traffic to it.

Some community servers refuse data center addresses, and through SLARP a server may see one. If a Rust server refuses the connection, set the game to “Don't accelerate (direct)” and join again.

What SLARP does

  • Routes Rust through its own network and optimizes ping and jitter

  • Picks the route to the server: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city

  • If the connection drops, it finds a fallback route

  • Everything else on your PC runs as usual

What SLARP does not do

  • Does not change the region or the server in the game — you pick those in the game itself

  • Does not raise FPS and does not fix stutter caused by load on your PC

  • Will not help when the game's own servers are down

  • Works only on Windows 10 and 11: SLARP does not run on a phone or a console

  • Does not promise entry to a server: its owner decides whom to let in

Rust servers

Rust has no single server list: some servers are run by Facepunch, the rest by the community, and anyone can host one.1,2

The ping in the browser is an estimate; the real number is visible on the server, as described below.

Since May 2026 the browser determines a server's country and rough location by IP address and sorts servers by distance to you. Before that, owners could fake the ping in the list: a distant server looked close and lagged.3

The game estimates your own location and shows it in the top left of the menu. If the country is wrong, change it manually: the choice is kept for later sessions.3

How to see your ping in Rust

According to the Facepunch wiki, ping and packet loss are shown by the game console.4

  1. On a server press F1 — the console opens. F1
  2. Switch to the NET tab: it shows the connection details, including ping and packet loss. F1 → NET
  3. On-screen counters are turned on by the perf console variable; in Facepunch's patch notes of 5 September 2019, value 4 means ping and 5 all counters: perf 45

The wiki page is old and the perf values come from 2019 patch notes: they may have shifted in newer versions.

Menu items are named as in the source, in English: localized versions of the game translate them.

If Rust stutters

Every server has its own ping

Rust servers stand in different countries with different hosts, so ping depends most of all on your server choice. Sort the list by proximity and check the NET tab. SLARP picks the route to the server but does not shorten the distance: for a server on another continent, compare the game with and without SLARP and play direct if it is worse with it.3

Grenades and C4 go off with a delay

A grenade or C4 throw waits for the server's reply, and at a high ping that wait shows. In the update of 1 October 2026 Facepunch added client-side prediction for grenades, C4 and satchel charges: the throw looks smoother, and the server corrects any mismatch. The latency stays, so a steady ping still matters.6

The server refuses you or kicks you

First check what the server requires: Secure-tagged servers need TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. If the requirements are met and the server still refuses you with SLARP, it may reject data center addresses: set Rust to “Don't accelerate (direct)” and press “Report a problem” so we learn about that server.2

Anti-cheat and SLARP

Rust's anti-cheat is kernel-mode Easy Anti-Cheat: so says the game's Steam page, which also notes that it has to be removed manually after uninstalling the game. Since March 2026 servers may require TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot; such servers carry the Secure tag in the browser, and Facepunch writes that it wants to make the requirement universal over time. These are the game's and the servers' requirements, not SLARP's.1,2

Game mode does not inject into the game and does not install an intercept driver on its traffic. We cannot vouch for publishers and their anti-cheat: they decide for themselves what counts as a violation.

If the game complains, take it off acceleration (“Don't accelerate (direct)” in the game's menu) and press “Report a problem”.

How to start

  1. Download and install

    Windows 10 and 11

  2. Open SLARP and sign in

No account yet — press “Start: 72 hours free”. Email or Telegram, no card needed

  3. Pick Rust and connect

SLARP finds the installed game on its own

Questions about Rust

Why is the ping different on different Rust servers?

Each server stands in its own country with its own host; the farther it is, the higher the ping, and no program fixes distance. Sorting by country in the browser helps find nearby servers; the exact number is on the NET tab of the F1 console.

A Rust server refuses me with SLARP — what do I do?

Some community servers reject data center addresses. Choose “Don't accelerate (direct)” for Rust in SLARP's game menu and connect again. On a Secure-tagged server, also check TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot.

Why doesn't the ping in the server list match the ping in the game?

The list shows an estimate: owners used to fake the ping in the browser, Facepunch wrote, so since May 2026 servers are sorted by the country determined from the IP. Check the real ping on the server, on the NET tab.

Do I need a card for the trial?

No. The 72 hours are given once per account, with no payment and no card.
