SLARP and Apex

Apex Legends is listed in the SLARP catalog as a Steam game. The app recognizes it by two processes: r5apex.exe and r5apex_dx12.exe. The data center stays your choice on the launch screen, and SLARP lays the route to it and optimizes ping and jitter along that route.

What SLARP does

  • Routes Apex through its own network and optimizes ping and jitter

  • Picks the route to the server: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city

  • If the connection drops, it finds a fallback route

  • Everything else on your PC runs as usual

What SLARP does not do

  • Does not change the region or the server in the game — you pick those in the game itself

  • Does not raise FPS and does not fix stutter caused by load on your PC

  • Will not help when the game's own servers are down — check the status2

  • Works only on Windows 10 and 11: SLARP does not run on a phone or a console

  • Does not pick the data center: you change it on the Apex launch screen

Apex servers

Since April 2025 the Apex Legends servers run on Amazon GameLift: the developers announced it in the game's news. The move, they say, helps find and fix problems by region. The same post says honestly that every player's connection is their own and one change does not affect everyone the same way.3

EA does not publish a full list of data centers, so we do not list cities. The available options are visible in the game itself, in the data center selection window.4

How to see your ping in Apex

Ping and loss in Apex are shown by the performance display. According to EA's help, it shows frames per second, latency and packet loss.4

  1. Open the game settings. Settings
  2. Switch to the gameplay tab and turn on the display: Gameplay → Performance Display
  3. During a match, FPS, latency and packet loss appear on the screen.

Menu items are named as in the source, in English: localized versions of the game translate them.

If Apex stutters

High ping in every match

Start with the data center. EA recommends launching the game, not pressing Continue, and opening Data Center in the bottom left corner of the launch screen. Pick the one closest to you: data takes longer to reach a distant data center, hence both the high ping and the loss. SLARP does not change the data center — it carries the game to the one you chose.4

Bad on every data center at once

That happens when the game is very crowded or the Apex servers have trouble, EA writes. Look at EA's server status page. If the game is having an outage, SLARP will not help; if the servers are fine, look for the cause in your connection.4

The cause is in your home network

Among the common causes EA names shared Wi-Fi used by many people at home or next door, wireless connections in general, programs in the background, and a router that stands far away or behind an obstacle. SLARP will not fix this part of the path. Its part is the route beyond it: the path to the data center, where it optimizes ping, jitter and loss.4

Anti-cheat and SLARP

Apex Legends is protected by Easy Anti-Cheat, a kernel-level anti-cheat. The game's Steam page gives a separate warning: after uninstalling the game, it has to be removed manually.1

Game mode does not inject into the game and does not install an intercept driver on its traffic. We cannot vouch for publishers and their anti-cheat: they decide for themselves what counts as a violation.

If the game complains, take it off acceleration (“Don't accelerate (direct)” in the game's menu) and press “Report a problem”.

Questions about Apex

How do I change the data center in Apex?

Launch the game and do not press Continue. In the bottom left corner of the launch screen there is a Data Center item: pick the one closest to you. The data center can be changed only in the game itself; SLARP does not do it.

Where do I see ping and packet loss in Apex?

In the settings, on the Gameplay tab, turn on Performance Display. The display shows FPS, latency and packet loss right in the match.

Does SLARP work with Apex from the EA app?

SLARP recognizes Apex by the game's process: r5apex.exe or r5apex_dx12.exe. In the catalog the game is listed as the Steam version. If you play through the EA app and SLARP did not find the game on its own, contact support.

Where do I check the Apex server status?

On EA's server status page, which includes Apex Legends. EA also recommends following the @PlayApex account. While the game's servers are having an outage, SLARP will not change anything.

Do I need a card for the trial?

No. The 72 hours are given once per account, with no payment and no card.
