SLARP and Fortnite

Fortnite in the SLARP catalog is an Epic Games Store game; it is not on Steam, so instead of a cover there is just the name here. The app recognizes Fortnite by the FortniteClient-Win64-Shipping.exe process; nothing needs setting up separately. The game itself picks the match server, and SLARP carries traffic to it.

What SLARP does

  • Routes Fortnite through its own network and optimizes ping and jitter

  • Picks the route to the server: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city

  • If the connection drops, it finds a fallback route

  • Everything else on your PC runs as usual

What SLARP does not do

  • Does not change the region or the server in the game — you pick those in the game itself

  • Does not raise FPS and does not fix stutter caused by load on your PC

  • Will not help when the game's own servers are down — check the status3

  • Works only on Windows 10 and 11: SLARP does not run on a phone or a console

How to see your ping in Fortnite

In Fortnite, ping and packet loss are shown by Net Debug Stats. The steps follow Epic's help article.4

  1. In the lobby press the player icon in the top right corner, then the gear — Settings opens. Settings
  2. Open the game UI tab: Game UI
  3. In the HUD section turn on Net Debug Stats. Net Debug Stats
  4. Start a match: ping and packet loss appear on the screen. In the lobby there are no real numbers.

For packet loss on PC, Epic's same article recommends adding the -limitclientticks switch to Fortnite's additional command line arguments in the Epic Games launcher: it limits how often network data is exchanged. That is Epic's advice, not SLARP's.

If Fortnite stutters

An outage at Epic or at your end

On Epic's status page Fortnite has separate rows: login, matchmaking, voice chat, game services and others. If login or matchmaking is down there, SLARP will not help — all you can do is wait. If everything is up and you are lagging, look at your own network.3

Packet loss in a match

Turn on Net Debug Stats and play a couple of matches. If loss shows up only on Wi-Fi, the problem is at home. If it shows up on a cable too, it is the route to the server: here SLARP optimizes ping and jitter and looks for a fallback route if the connection drops. For loss, Epic also recommends the -limitclientticks launch switch and, if that did not help, contacting your ISP.4

Freezes at a steady ping

A steady ping with a stuttering picture is a sign of load on your PC, not the network. Check FPS and background programs: SLARP does not raise FPS.

Anti-cheat and SLARP

Fortnite has two anti-cheats, and Epic's help describes both. Easy Anti-Cheat is mandatory: Epic offers to install it at first launch, and if the installation failed, the help article lays out a manual method. Epic calls BattlEye a cheat detection program that identifies players using third-party software; for problems with it Epic refers you to the BattlEye FAQ.1,2

Game mode does not inject into the game and does not install an intercept driver on its traffic. We cannot vouch for publishers and their anti-cheat: they decide for themselves what counts as a violation.

If the game complains, take it off acceleration (“Don't accelerate (direct)” in the game's menu) and press “Report a problem”.

SLARP finds the installed game on its own

Questions about Fortnite

Where do I turn on the ping display in Fortnite?

In Settings, on the Game UI tab: turn on Net Debug Stats. Ping and packet loss appear on the screen during a match.

Epic's servers are down — will SLARP help?

No. If Epic's status page shows a login or matchmaking outage, that is Epic's side. SLARP helps with the road to a working server, not with the server itself.

What about a phone or a console?

Do I need a card for the trial?

No. The 72 hours are given once per account, with no payment and no card.
