SLARP and Arma Reforger

Arma Reforger is in the SLARP catalog as a Steam game: the app recognizes it by the ArmaReforgerSteam.exe process. You choose the server in the game's server browser and SLARP leaves that choice alone: it carries traffic to whichever server you connect to, official Bohemia or community.

Community servers live by their owners' rules. If a server does not accept connections from data center addresses, set Arma Reforger to “Don't accelerate (direct)” in SLARP while you play there.

What SLARP does

  • Routes Arma Reforger through its own network and optimizes ping and jitter

  • Picks the route to the server: the node is chosen for you, or you choose a city

  • If the connection drops, it finds a fallback route

  • Everything else on your PC runs as usual

What SLARP does not do

  • Does not change the region or the server in the game — you pick those in the game itself

  • Does not raise FPS and does not fix stutter caused by load on your PC

  • Will not help when the game's own servers are down

  • Works only on Windows 10 and 11: SLARP does not run on a phone or a console

Arma Reforger servers

Arma Reforger has two kinds of servers: official ones run by Bohemia Interactive and community servers hosted by players. Both appear in the same server browser. Bohemia writes about the official ones in its update notes: 1.1.0.42 raised their capacity for the Conflict and Game Master modes, and 1.6.0.76 turned off night grain on them, leaving that choice to community servers.2,3

Bohemia does not say where the official servers stand, and a community server stands wherever its owner put it, so we name no cities.

Since update 1.2.1.169 the server browser has a queue: no need to refresh the list by hand, the game connects you when a slot frees up. The browser's filters include one for BattlEye, added back in the summer of 2022.4,5

How to see your ping in Arma Reforger

The server browser shows the ping to each Arma Reforger server; in update 1.8.0.13 Bohemia improved how that ping is calculated.6

  1. Open the server browser from the main menu: every server shows the latency to it.
  2. If a server is full, join the queue: the game connects you when a slot frees up.4
  3. Compare the ping to official servers with the ping to community servers: the difference tells you how far a particular server stands.

Menu items are named as in the source, in English: localized versions of the game translate them.

If Arma Reforger stutters

Ping is low in the browser, but combat stutters

The browser ping is a short probe, while combat in Arma Reforger loads the server with vehicles and dozens of soldiers, and latency there is its own thing. If the stutter coincides with rising ping, the cause is the route to the server or the server itself. SLARP works on the route: it carries traffic through its own network, optimizes ping and jitter and looks for a fallback route if the connection drops.

A community server lags for everyone

If ping is high for everyone on the server, the server is overloaded or far away: that is its owner's domain. Pick another server with similar rules and compare. SLARP does not change the server and does not take load off it.

Ping jumps on one server

Spikes at a steady average ping usually come from Wi-Fi, background downloads and your ISP's route. Compare a cable with Wi-Fi and stop downloads: if the cable is steady, the problem is your home network. If it jumps on a cable too, it is the route, and SLARP picks the route to the server through its own network.

Anti-cheat and SLARP

Arma Reforger runs kernel-level BattlEye, as stated on the game's Steam page, which also notes it has to be removed separately after uninstalling the game. Whether BattlEye is on is up to each server's owner: the server browser has a filter for it, and Bohemia has reminded owners that a misconfigured BattlEye kicks players.1,5,7

Game mode does not inject into the game and does not install an intercept driver on its traffic. We cannot vouch for publishers and their anti-cheat: they decide for themselves what counts as a violation.

If the game complains, take it off acceleration (“Don't accelerate (direct)” in the game's menu) and press “Report a problem”.

Does Arma Reforger have official servers?

Yes. Bohemia Interactive runs official servers and writes about their capacity and settings in its update notes. Next to them in the server browser are community servers hosted by players. The developers do not publish where the official servers stand.

How do I see my ping in Arma Reforger?

In the server browser: every server shows the ping to it. If a server is full, join the queue and the game connects you when a slot frees up.

Does SLARP change the server in Arma Reforger?

No. You pick the server in the server browser; SLARP carries traffic to it and watches ping, jitter and loss along the way.

A server won't let me in through SLARP — what now?
